Home care professionals from across Florida descended on the state capitol in Tallahassee last week for HCAF’s third annual Legislative Day at the Capitol.

Each spring during the Florida legislative session, HCAF invites industry professionals to lobby state lawmakers about the importance of home health care and pending legislation that impacts the home care industry. Industry leaders met with more than 50 legislators, most of whom serve on influential health care committees in the legislature, and it proved to be a very successful day all around. “It was great! Very educational and interesting. Everything was very well planned out and executed,” said one participant.

This year, legislation that will reform background screening requirements and reduce the Agency for Health Care Administration’s quarterly report fine are on the table, and attendees stressed to lawmakers the importance of these bills.

“Everyone we met with seemed to be receptive and involved…[legislators] took notes and asked pertinent questions, and we got a positive response to our issues,” commented one citizen advocate.

Prior to meetings at the capitol, attendees were briefed on relevant legislation and ways to build effective relationships with decisionmakers. “I learned to appreciate the legislative process and the people involved in the planning of this event and the experiences with all of the lawmakers and their assistants was positive…everyone we had contact with assisted and taught us,” said one particpant.

Next month, HCAF will host its annual March on Washington advocacy event in Washington, D.C. to discuss federal home care legislation and regulations. Click here to learn more about this critical advocacy event, and to register today!
