HHCAHPS Home Health Compare and Preview Reports

By Gina Mazza, RN, BSN, Fazzi Associates

This month, CMS will include HHCAHPS results on Home Health Compare for the first time. This is expected to be released on or around April 19, 2012. Prior to that release, agencies will also have the opportunity to access their initial results in a Preview Report made available on April 11, 2012 on the Home Health CAHPS website.

What will you see in the Preview Report?

Agencies with four quarters of HHCAHPS data from October 2010 through September 2011 will be able to preview their response rate and the results to five measures. These include**:

  • The percentage of patients who rated the home care they received a nine or ten on a scale of zero (worst care possible) to ten (best care possible);
  • The percentage of patients who reported that they would be willing to recommend the HHA to family or friends;
  • The percentage of patients who reported that their home health team always gave home care in a professional way;
  • The percentage of patients who reported that their home health team communicated well with them; and
  • The percentage of patients who reported that their home health team discussed medicines, pain and home safety with them.

We’ll be sure to keep you posted as Home Health Compare updates are announced. In the meantime, we strongly encourage you to check out your Preview Report when it is available so that you can identify any problem areas and work on making improvements immediately.
